Text Box: HOW TO GET THERE

By public transport – There is no public transport available to Koija. 

By private means (4-wheel drive is best) – travel to Nanyuki, then take main roads heading towards Dol Dol. Before reaching Dol Dol, turn left at the Ilpolei junction & head approx 18 km north-west towards Kimanjo. Koija is situated several kilometres north west of Kimanjo.

Homesteads at Koija are scattered over a wide area away from the main road.

By public transport – travel by Nissan (matatu)

or Peujot taxi from Nairobi to Nanyuki.

(Journey time approx. 2.5hrs)

 

At Nanyuki take another Nissan to Kimanjo (on route to Oldonyiro). The last Nissan on this route leaves Nanyuki around 11am each day. (Journey time approx 2 hrs). Ask to be dropped at Musul which is situated on the right hand side of the road approx 10 km  before reaching Kimanjo.

(NB. This service can be unreliable, particularly on the return route from Musul to Nanyuki when it is advisable to book seats in advance.)

 

Alternatively, if you have the funds, it may be possible to book a taxi or 4 wheel drive vehicle in Nanyuki.

 

By private means (4-wheel drive is best)travel to Nanyuki, then take main roads heading towards Dol Dol. Before reaching Dol Dol, turn left at the Ilpolei junction & head approx 18 km north-west towards Kimanjo. Musul is reached approx 10 km  before Kimanjo. 

 

Homesteads at Musul  are scattered over a wide area away from the main road. Please contact Daniel Lemolo, Secretary of MBEKEC, before you travel for more specific directions to Musul & he will also arrange for someone to meet you at the roadside and take you the last 20 mins. on foot, or direct you off-track by vehicle to MBEKEC at Musul Group Ranch.

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT PERMISSION MUST BE SOUGHT FROM MUSUL GROUP RANCH BEFORE ENTRY INTO THE AREA.

An entrance fee is payable.

Knowledgeable local guides are also available by prior arrangement.

Please note that there are no petrol stations or cyber cafes at Il Polei or Dol Dol, the last you will meet are in Nanyuki.  Mobile phone network in the area is also poor.
