MBEKEC applied for funding from TTF (Tourism Trust Fund) and CDTF (Community Development Trust Fund) in January 2007 to assist with the provision of water and sanitation facilities at Musul. The outcome of this proposal is still awaited.  MBEKEC’s 2006 application to UNDP was unfortunately unsuccessful. As MBEKEC’s own small funds are now depleted, funds from donors & well-wishers are being requested by MBEKEC to help the group with the costs of re-submission of this and other new proposals which will help them to move forward with implementation of their ‘Strategic Plan’. Funding & appropriate training & capacity-building are also still being requested by MBEKEC, with specific emphasis on the development of eco-tourism facilities (eco-lodge & home-stay), environmental conservation & monitoring, bee-keeping, provision of a local primary school, sale and marketing of traditional beadwork jewellery, educational sponsorship and so on.

Information & updates based on CCI-Kenya’s latest field visit to MBEKEC & Musul Naramatisho can be found among the January entries  at ‘Postcards from Kenya’.

The African Pro-Poor Tourism Development Centre and The Institute for Cultural Affairs Kenya (ICAK), two experienced NGO’s based in Nairobi, have indicated that they are positively interested in helping MBECEK & Musul Naramatisho with certain aspects of training & capacity building. However, as neither NGO is a funding organisation, their active support for MBEKEC is unable to take place until appropriate funding assistance can be found. If you are (or know of) a bona-fide donor organisation which may be able to assist, please send your contact details & further information to us here.
